Irish Haunted Castles & HotelsThese are perfect to create your own Haunted Ireland vacation

Our Country Castles do double-duty with our Ireland's Haunted Castles Self-Drive Tour and can be added to any of our self-drive vacations.

I have stayed at a few of these castles myself and while I haven't seen any instance of paranormal activity, a friend's camera did pick up something strange - a reddish aura in the digital photo. I had given her the camera a year or so prior and it works just fine but a few photos in Cabra Castle's Pub were streaked and weren't reproduced by anyone else ... or the same camera for that matter.

Cabra CastleThis haunted castle is just 45 minutes north of Dublin.

Cabra Castle County Cavan

Cabra Castle has an extremely rich history. This history can be experienced by all hotel guests who wish to spend the night in one of eighty historical and richly designed bedrooms. Choosing from the splendor of the Lords bedchamber to the spacious elegance of the Courtyard Bedrooms or our charming gate lodge.

The original Cabra Castle, the ruins of which still stand on high ground above the Wishing Well - not far from Cromwell's Bridge, was situated to the west of the Kingscourt - Carrickmacross Road.

The Castle and the land surrounding it is believed to have belonged to the O'Reilly Family until it was confiscated in the mid 17th century by Cromwell's orders and given to Colonel Thomas Cooch. Colonel T. Cooch was born in Donegal in 1632 and was the grandson of Sir Thomas Cooch K.C. Sir Thomas Cooch K.C. had migrated to Ireland very early in the 17th century and was given a grant of 1,000 acres in Donegal by James 1.

Rooms: 80 rooms, 22 in the castle itself. The courtyard rooms are located in the renovated building beside the castle. These are decorated to the highest standard and have all the original brickwork and architectural features from that era.

Dining: At Cabra, we would like to make your meals memorable and endeavor to keep to our high standards in gastromony. We cater for all tastes and fancies. All of our food is either home grown or is 100% guaranteed Irish. Our fully stocked wine cellar will compliment any meal.

Facilities: Golf, horseback riding, fishing and rough shooting available nearby.

Client Comments:

Cabra was AMAZING! When we checked in, they sent us to their "cottages" for our rooms. The cottages are more like small townhouse style apartments with locks on each interior door. I called the front desk & explained that we'd been expecting to stay IN the castle & asked if there was any way that we could get rooms inside the castle. They were able to accommodate us and didn't end up charging us the difference in room rates! The rooms were just beautiful and the grounds & castle were breathtaking! ~ Jaime R. 2011

Client Comments:

Although Glin Castle is not as famous as some others, I have to say that their staff treated us like royalty......and the food was well worth the price. It was amazing!! Dromoland was much more regal, but it didn't have the charm surrounding it like Glin Castle. ~ Elaine & Michael E. 2006
